Edgewood’s presence in Bay Area communities ensures that help is nearby when children, youth, and families need it most. Each program space is designed with intention, creating environments where those we serve feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to heal.
The only facility of its kind for youth in the Bay Area, Edgewood’s Crisis Stabilization Unit provides immediate, short-term intervention for children and adolescents (ages 5-17) experiencing acute mental health crises.
Impact this year:
When a child is in crisis, families need immediate help—not a waitlist. The CSU provides safety, assessment, and rapid stabilization, often preventing the need for more restrictive hospital settings.

Edgewood pioneered kinship care services in 1993—the first program of its kind in the nation. Today, our kinship programs serve families across San Francisco and San Mateo Counties who have stepped up to care for children when parents cannot.

Kinship families often face financial strain, legal complexity, and emotional stress. Our programs provide the wrap-around support they need to succeed.

For young adults aging out of foster care, having a stable place to live is foundational to success. THPP+ provides not just housing, but mentorship, life skills training, and ongoing support as youth transition to independence.

Transitional Housing Plus recognizes that turning 18 doesn’t mean you’re ready to be entirely on your own. Our program extends support during this critical transition period.

A welcoming community hub in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood, the Family Resource Center provides essential support that strengthens families and prevents crises before they begin.
The Family Resource Center creates a space where families feel welcomed, supported, and empowered, not judged. It’s often the first point of contact for families seeking help.

We recognize that the physical environment plays a crucial role in healing. Every space we are able to create with the generosity of our volunteers and donors means we can achieve ideal spaces for learning, healing, and truly providing exceptional youth mental healthcare.
Safety First
Our facilities prioritize physical and emotional safety with secure entries, calm color palettes, and spaces that feel welcoming rather than institutional.
Natural Light and Nature
Where possible, we incorporate windows, outdoor spaces, and natural elements that promote calm and connection to the environment.
Sensory Considerations
From noise levels to lighting to comfortable furniture, we design spaces that don’t overwhelm but instead support regulation and comfort.
Cultural Reflection
Our spaces reflect the diverse communities we serve, with artwork, materials, and resources that honor different backgrounds and identities.
Flexibility
Rooms can be configured for individual therapy, family meetings, group activities, or quiet reflection—meeting different needs throughout the day.
Whether a child is in crisis at our CSU, a family is visiting our resource center, or a young adult is attending a life skills workshop, the environment itself communicates: You are safe. You are valued. You belong here.
Edgewood’s work is made possible through strong partnerships with county behavioral health systems, healthcare providers, schools, and community organizations.
San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services
Our largest county partner, supporting programs including wraparound services, residential treatment, and community-based care.
San Francisco Department of Public Health – Community Behavioral Health Services
Funding and collaborating on crisis services, outpatient care, kinship support, and wraparound programs.
Kaiser Permanente
Partnership supporting residential treatment, community health initiatives, and expanded access to care.
San Francisco Unified School District & Local Schools
Collaboration bringing mental healthcare services directly into schools, plus our Community School serving students who need intensive support.
Community-Based Organizations
Working alongside neighborhood groups, family resource centers, and cultural organizations to ensure care is accessible and culturally responsive.
These partnerships allow us to create a true continuum of care. We aim to meet families where they are and provide seamless support no matter where a youth or family member is on their path to youth mental healthcare.
The places where we provide care from crisis stabilization units to community centers to transitional housing are more than just buildings. They are spaces designed for healing, growth, and transformation.
By creating environments that feel safe, welcoming, and culturally responsive, and by strategically locating services where families can access them, we ensure that place becomes a powerful part of the path forward.
